In a recent article by Ad Age, the question is posed:  How much is a hotlink worth?

As publishers continue to experiment with digital subscriptions and single copy sales, figuring out the value of this new medium is critical.  Regardless of whether the ad is in a Zinio edition, an Apple iPad, or on the new Kindle Fire, automatically activating web addresses for free is no longer the case.

Conde Naste has set a benchmark of $5,000 to activate each web address from a print ad. Time Inc. has set a different policy.

With respect to the question of whether print subscribers should have to pay again to read on a tablet, Hearst says yes, while Time Inc. and Conde Nast say no.

Keep an eye on the tablet sales data coming out post Christmas, and on the new ABC data… key trends to watch.

A new Special Interest Publication (SIP) from Canadian Real Estate Wealth is set to hit newsstands at a $9.99 cover price.

The cover, designed by K9 Design in Toronto, packs a ton of benefit-oriented sell lines onto the page. Good use of the left hand “real estate”, a color scheme that draws the eye down the page, and a clean white background are just a few of the tricks of the trade employed to make this cover work. Bullets, + sign, boxes and underline techniques are other helpful devices.

Murder conspiracy and counselling charges against multi-millionaire Alex Petraitis, 69, former owner of Metro Tronto News and his former dominatrix mistress, were suddenly dismissed by The Crown, according to reports by three of Toronto’s top newspapers this morning.

The bizarre case, which included six trial dates and two mistrials, has been in the news since 2003, when Petraitis and his mistress allegedly approached her ex-boyfriend and onetime Hells Angels associate, Kerry Bob Anderson, to murder Petraitis’s then-wife of 39 years, Kirsten.

Sordid details began to emerge, many of which are recapped in the links below:
