To assist publishers who are looking for green magazine solutions, Canada’s major magazine associations, in partnership with Markets Initiative, have published a new 36-page Magazine Eco Kit, offering “a compendium of tips, terms, resources & papers for environmentally friendly magazine publishing.” (The first kit came out in 2004.)
Hard copies were printed by Dollco Printing on a new paper comprised of 20% wheat straw, 40% post-consumer recycled fibre and 40% completely chlorine-free virgin wood fibre.
To request a copy, send an e-mail to info@magazinescanada.ca. The kit is also available as a PDF.
The Eco Kit is supported by the British Columbia Association of Magazine Publishers, Alberta Magazine Publishers Association, Manitoba Magazine Publishers Association, Magazines Ontario, Magazines du Québec, Atlantic Magazines Association and Magazines Canada.
In other green news…
Auditing bureau BPA Worldwide (CCAB in Canada) has decided to make the printing of circulation statements optional for all members. Members that choose not to print will save on average about $50 for every four-page black and white statement.
The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) already sends PDFs to its members instead of printed statements, although publishers can choose to pay for a hard copy as well.
