Changes continue at Rogers with the recent shut-down of Everbetter.ca and Teenflare.com. Starting as a competitor to
Zoomer, Everbetter.ca launched in late April this year. The site was aimed at the 50-plus audience and was led by executive publisher Jean Goulet. Though Rogers confirmed the site has been closed no word was given as to whether any jobs were affected. Everbetter.ca was nominated this fall for Best Online Only Website at the first annual
COPA Awards.
Zoomer publisher Gord Poland says that the magazine always welcomes competitors because it keeps the team on their toes and sharp. "To lose a competitor there is pluses and minuses," he said. "The plus obviously is that we could get a litte more revenue, market share that they no longer have."
Also recently closed by Rogers is Teenflare.com. The sister site to
Flare.com was aimed at a younger audience and shut down earlier this month, said senior director of brand communications for Rogers Publishing Suneel Khanna. “Flare has been a hot brand this year and Flare.com has experienced a significant rise in traffic, with some of our strongest audience numbers to date,” he said. “We are further defining the Flare.com strategy, and as a result, teenflare.com ceased operating on November 2nd. We will continue to serve the younger segment of our audience within the larger site rather than through a dedicated teen channel.”
