Future Shop is all about offering the latest technology, but it has a new weapon in its arsenal — in the form of good old-fashioned print.
magazine [from Click Media Group], a monthly with a 100,000 circulation, is available for free at Future Shops across Canada. Editor Frank O'Grady said it will focus on games, movies and technology, "focusing on the big product releases."
The publication has a mix of staff and freelance writers, said O'Grady, who noted Marc Saltzman and Victor Lucas, both "leading Canadian tech and games journalists," are regular contributors.
The first issue has features about the Playstation Vita, actor Daniel Craig (of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
), and an interview with the star of The Hunger Games
, Josh Hutcherson.
Inside the 66-page intro issue there are also coupons for Future Shop products, while there's also a healthy number of ads from companies including EA Sports, Pizza Pizza, and Yellowpages.ca. The magazine's rate card states a full-page ad is $9,750.
of course will also be available in electronic form — a PDF of the first issue is available here
. The next issue will feature an iPad edition and there's also a "calendar app" [that keeps readers up to date with new releases] with video that can be downloaded by scanning a QR code in the inaugural edition.
Additionally, the mag can be found online at www.clickonline.com
and there's content for iPhone, Symbian and Android platforms.
The magazine is a sponsor of the Canadian Video Game Awards in Vancouver next month and attendees will receive a copy of Click
, noted O'Grady. Click
will take that opportunity to host a launch party, he added.
The magazine's office is at 1 Yonge St., the home of the Toronto Star
, but there's no affiliation, said O'Grady: "Click is fully independent."
