Retail News magazine folds, unable to go digital

The July/August edition of Retail News magazine will be its last. The Canadian Gift Association flagship publication with a readership of over 35,000 made the announcement on July 24.

Though the publication recently took home a KRW Award for B2B magazine of the year in the trade division, the finances just weren’t there in order to keep it going.

The Canadian Gift Association released the following statement on its website,

"It is very sad that yet another award winning magazine will stop being printed. The Board spent many months considering this decision before acting. A study conducted to review whether the magazine might simply be transitioned to a digital-only platform indicates Retail News would continue losing money. Faced with rapidly declining advertising revenues and constantly increasing costs, no reasonable alternative to closing the magazine was discovered," said Peter Moore, President and CEO of the Canadian Gift Association.

The Association is committed to finding exciting new ways to connect members and their retailers, offering opportunities for sharing industry information, research and educational experiences. We look forward to telling you about our plans in the upcoming months.
